FAQs

1

Will I be "out of it" or lose control?

Absolutely not. This is perhaps the biggest myth! Hypnobirthing is about heightened awareness, not a loss of consciousness. You will be fully present, aware of your surroundings, and able to hold a conversation if you wish. You are simply in a state of deep, focused relaxation - similar to when you're "in the zone" while driving or lost in a really good book.

2

What if I want an epidural or need a C-section?

Hypnobirthing is for every birth. The techniques you learn - like calming your nervous system and using the BRAINS framework for decision-making - are arguably even more powerful during inductions or planned caesareans. Whether you're in a birth pool or an operating theatre, being calm and informed changes the way your brain processes the experience.

3

Can you guarantee a pain-free birth?

No one can guarantee a pain-free birth, and I steer clear of "promises." What I can promise is to provide you with tools that significantly reduce the perception of pain. By breaking the Fear-Tension-Pain cycle, your body can produce its own natural pain relief (endorphins), which are many times more potent than morphine

4

When is the best time to start?

Most parents find the "sweet spot" is between 20 and 30 weeks. This gives you plenty of time to practice the techniques so they become second nature. However, if you've found me later in your pregnancy, our Golden Hour Intensive is designed specifically to give you the essentials in a shorter timeframe.

5

Does my partner really need to be there?

While you can certainly practice alone, I highly encourage partners to attend. Your birth partner isn't just a bystander; they are your guardian of the environment. We teach them how to advocate for you, how to spot when you need a specific relaxation trigger, and how to ensure your birth space remains a "sacred bubble.

6

Is it "woo-woo" or is there actual science?

It is pure physiology! Together we study how the autonomic nervous system affects the muscles of the uterus. When you are scared, your body enters "fight or flight," shunting blood away from the uterus to your limbs. Hypnobirthing keeps you in the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), ensuring your birthing muscles have the oxygen and blood flow they need to work efficiently.
